Me

My name is Alex Laing, alias laingawbl, lainga, intertopical, itcz, etc. I’m a software developer and cloud enthusiast (as in cumulonimbi). My great aim in life is to make it easy for people to learn about our planet’s large-scale climate dynamics.

When I’m not doing Planet Zone Stuff, I live in Vancouver, BC, and work at MDA Space.

I almost named my video game project The Living Earth, in reference both to 1990’s SimEarth (whose byline was “the living planet!”), and to its chief advisor, James Lovelock (see e.g. Gaia: The living Earth).

Ultimately, I decided on panĀ·gaia. When will it be out? If you have any idea… tell me!

Anyway, I hope the message still sticks: this planet is a gigantic living being 1 of immense power and complexity. We must not fear it, or resent it, but understand it. That is what I believe.
